SMW - Objectives                                                            

The objectives of SMW are grouped into three main goals with different sub-targets:

1) Technological concept development

  • Electronic and mechanical integration of AFM and ILM
  • Design of a unified and intuitive user interface
  • Integration of spatial light modulator (SLM) technology for beam shaping, phase contrast enhancement and optical tweezers

2) Validation of integrated system capability

  • Correlated measurements by simultaneous topography and optical imaging
  • Space- and time-correlated cellular stimulation and fluorescence imaging
  • Simultaneous AFM and fluorescence spectral imaging

3) Advancement of cancer research and molecular immunolgy

  • Integration of PTNS and characterisation of chemical composition of cellular structures
  • Development of an accurate tool for cancer detection
  • Application of SMW to study immunological processes
