The objectives of SMW are grouped into three main goals with different sub-targets:
1) Technological concept development
- Electronic and mechanical integration of AFM and ILM
- Design of a unified and intuitive user interface
- Integration of spatial light modulator (SLM) technology for beam shaping, phase contrast enhancement and optical tweezers
2) Validation of integrated system capability
- Correlated measurements by simultaneous topography and optical imaging
- Space- and time-correlated cellular stimulation and fluorescence imaging
- Simultaneous AFM and fluorescence spectral imaging
3) Advancement of cancer research and molecular immunolgy
- Integration of PTNS and characterisation of chemical composition of cellular structures
- Development of an accurate tool for cancer detection
- Application of SMW to study immunological processes
